Top 8 hopes: Chiefs are hoping to win after a poor run in the league

It was only their second victory this season with the first coming against Extension Gunners in the league at the same venue.

Although they carry a narrow lead ahead of the second leg in Jwaneng in a fortnight, Magosi are hoping that the win could go a long way in motivating them going forward.

“It is not that we have won anything. What we have done today needs to be upped. We will try to work even harder going forward. Maybe if we taste victory, it will motivate us. I have seen teams performing bad; there in the league but having a good run in cup competition. That is what I am praying for,” Magosi’s caretaker coach, Innocent Morapedi said after the victory against Galaxy.

He said they had a one-on-one discussion with players to try and make them understand that they have a responsibility to deliver.

Khumoetsile Kufigwa, who scored Magosi’s first goal, said his role on the day was to hold the balls upfront and wait for support from the middle.

“We came into this game looking for nothing less than a win. We told ourselves that this team will not beat us. This win hopefully give us a positive mind going forward,” he said.

Kufigwa was voted the man of the match for his sterling performance on an unfamiliar role.

Chiefs will be hoping that the momentum continues tonight when they take on Police XI at the Molepolole Sports Complex in the league.

Police XI have also been struggling and they recently parted ways with assistant coach, Ndiyapo Letsholathebe.

Orapa United, who played to a 1-1 draw against Security Systems in the Mascom Top 8, face TAFIC at Itekeng Stadium while Sharps Shooting Stars and Gilport Lions face off at Otse Police College.

Meanwhile, Gaborone United (GU) registered a comfortable 3-0 win over Extension Gunners in the first leg of the Mascom Top quarterfinal.

GU, who are looking to extend their record in the competition, gave Gunners a huge task ahead of the second leg with goals from Obonwe Maome and Dirang Moloi.

GU have won the competition twice already in seven seasons.
