Tsholofelo, UB rescue troubled BoBA

BMC Boxing Club claimed second position while EMG finished third in the men’s side. Last year’s champions, Prisons could only manage a fifth place finish.

The tournament was rescued by the UB and Tsholofelo Boxing Clubs when it was doomed to fail due to lack of funds.

As a result the winners did not receive trophies, medals or prize money. Aratwa Kesemang (60kg) of UB won the best female bout award while George Molwantwa of BMC, who participated under 56kg, went away with the best male bout.

BoBA spokesperson, Taolo Tlouetsile said the tournament went well despite the challenges they faced towards and during the competitions.

He said UB and Tsholofelo came to their rescue to take care of some of the tournament’s expenses.

“We give credit to clubs that agreed to participate under these circumstances and to all the people who volunteered their services to make sure that the competition goes on smoothly,” Tlouetsile said.

He said 13 out of 22 clubs turned up which was not bad looking at the fact that the tournament was almost cancelled at the last minute.

“This was our last biggest competition in our calendar of events. We look forward to sending athletes to the Zone IV Championships to be held in Mozambique in February,” he said. “We are also eyeing the Commonwealth Games (qualifiers) next year around April,” he added.
