BSA worried about ill-mannered students

He revealed this during the closing ceremony of the Botswana Scouts Association (BSA) national jamborally, which was held at the Central Park here last week Friday.

When giving the camp overview, Seretse said both parents and teachers have shifted their responsibilities to discipline their children to scout camps.

He indicated that if they absorbed more naughty children in the camps, they would end up influencing other youngsters.

He revealed that BSA national jamborally camp attracted 816 scouts with 65 coordinators across the country.

When offering words of encouragement, Monarch location customary court president Gunny Moses encouraged boy scouts to remain disciplined, humble and obedient to their parents and teachers.

“We need people who can bring fresh innovative ideas which can boost the economy of Botswana, not those full of hatred and lack respect for one another,’ he said.

Moses encouraged BSA to fight against gender-based violence by promoting peace and tranquility at homes together with taking care of the vulnerable groups.

For his part, the principal education officer of North-East district Shingile Malibala said that the purpose of the occasion is to promote integration of scout culture and modern world for better future hence the theme for the day.

He indicated that the theme signifies the recognition of vigorous changing technology and lifestyle, which brings the incorporation of scout outdoor and jungle lifestyle programmes.

He said that there is a need for organisations such as BSA to intervene in curbing social ills at school such as drugs and alcohol abuse, school dropouts due to teenage pregnancy and some students beating their teachers.

“Nowadays we are also encountering a serious misuse of different social media networks .We believe that this camp will resolve the bad behaviour by teaching children to use Facebook properly,” he said.

Malibala added that some of the children misuse social media by insulting elders and exposing each other in the public domain.

He revealed that Ministry of Basic Education wants to partner with scout movement to curb social ills in school environment.
