Mahalapye Junior Secondary School celebrate after winning the Under-15 Copa Coca-Cola PIC: KENNEDY RAMOKONE

Their victory follows an intensive weekend full of action since Friday when the battle for supremacy started. They went home with gold medals and a trophy. In the girls category, Radisele JSS were also victorious in the final after thrashing Sesolo JSS 6-0. The two schools will also receive sporting equipment from the sponsors, Copa Coca-Cola, for their sterling performances.

The equipment will not only be for football, but will include other ball games under BISA.  Speaking to Mmegi Sport after the games, head of operations and marketing at Copa Coca-Cola, Moitshephi Sefako said this year’s games were different in that they increased the rewards for teams. He also said they sponsored the Under-17 athletes. He however revealed that the Under-15 winners would benefit more.

“Radisele and Mahalapye Secondary Schools received their gold medals and the trophy after the tournament. However, that won’t be the end of their prizes,” Sefako said. “We have decided to give the winners sporting equipment for different codes since their mother body, BISA, focuses on different ball games.” He said the kind of support would encourage players to take sports seriously as well as strengthen their relationship with Botswana Integrated Sports Association (BISA).

“The kind of performance displayed by the athletes is fantastic. To see these kids, succeeding and becoming top athletes from development brings so much happiness to us. Our partnership with BISA is going to go a long way because they are doing a great job in the development of football in Botswana,” Sefako said.

He revealed that this year’s competitions attracted 230 schools around Botswana in which 35,000 students participated.
