According to the Nafprop director, Gillie Visser, who are the owners of the mall, the 9,000 square meter mall was built to the tune of P150 million.

The mall is a single storey building, a closed space with three entrances and will attract 47 tenants including restaurants, banks and clothing shops.

Furthermore it will offer convenience ATM machines and restaurants, operating 24 hours and are facing outward so that customers have access to them since it is a closed mall.

Some of the shops that are featured in the mall to name but a few are Foschini, Exact, and Sportscene, cCicks, Total Sports and Ackermans.

However, for now only a few of them are open with some expected to open in a few weeks.

The mall is set to attract more customers as it is located opposite the bus rank for convenient shopping. The mall opens just a few days after Square Mart mall, also located along A1 road opened one of its stores, Food Lovers, last week Wednesday.

These booming developments indeed prove some of the experts’ views on Palapye that it is the next Botswana business hub.

The area Member of Parliament, Moiseraele Goya has on several occasions emphasised that the village will soon be declared a town.

He was quoted by the local media as saying Palapye is one of the few villages that are blessed with resources such as land, water and electricity. This has seen many businesses and companies exploring business opportunities in the village in recent times.

He said the development of the malls will make Palapye a destination of choice and will see an economic boom to the village that will eventually become a town.

“The malls will also play a major role in curbing rural-urban migration as many people living here will now have jobs and won’t migrate to cities looking for jobs,” Goya said.

In a few weeks another mall, Diphalane Mall is also expected to open which means a total of three new malls in Palapye that will bring about a major transformation to the village, which ounce had only two malls.

Now travelling as far as Francistown and Gaborone looking for variety of goods not available in the village will be a thing of the past.
