He said so far in Botswana there has been four cases of doping, two from athletics and the other two from rugby.

Serufho emphasised that BBA must ensure that there are relevant clauses that address the issue of doping, saying they must become part of the Registered Testing Pool.

“Some athletes do not use substances on the day of competition, so we want to come unannounced hence the purpose of completing whereabouts forms. Some athletes use performance enhancing substances, which work for about a month to produce results hence the form will help allow the athletes to be tested by the Doping Control Officers anytime they feel like,” he said.

He also urged BBA to adapt and fully follow the sports development model saying that they would avoid instances of having only one star athlete.  He said sport development models would help to consistently produce athletes.

Meanwhile, Serufho advised the BBA to always consider incorporating women into leadership positions. Outgoing BBA president, Godfrey Mathumo thanked his team for having endured the hardships and persevered in the last three years with an extra year added at the recommendation of BNSC to redefine membership and bring back clubs.

He alluded to the fact that in the 2016 special general meeting,  they amended the constitution and brought in new policies and affiliation by way of compliance given minimum standards. He said a strategy plan has been developed and that the incoming committee should ensure that there is proper handing as opposed to previous years where little or nothing was done to properly hand over office.

Mathumo vowed to support the incoming committee to further develop the sport.
