BMD fail to meet UDC deadline

The UDC vice president, Dumelang Saleshando had earlier written to all its affiliates requesting them to bring lists of their members in order to accredit delegates to the coalition congress early in the year.

Again all affiliated secretary generals were scheduled to meet on that day which they did. BMD spokesperson, Wilfred Rasina confirmed that they did not comply because they wanted to finish with the issue of elective congress first. “There was nothing that the interim committee could do except to finish with the issue of congress first. UDC was aware of this position because we had to take mandate from the congress. Our situation has been different from any other parties and therefore we had to sort ourselves out first,” Rasina said.

He said they would comply with UDC request after they had submitted their congress report and names of their representation. “We have been in talks with UDC about everything we are doing,” he continued. Although Saleshando did not want to discuss the issue, he however confirmed that some parties had complied while some have not.  Saleshando said the November meeting would determine the numbers of delegates at the UDC national constitutional congress for purpose of accreditation.

In his letter that he had written to contracting parties, Saleshando said, “You will further be required to prepare list of those of your members which you wish to be delegates at the UDC national constitutional congress for purposes of accreditation and credentials of delegates. The delegates list should be submitted by January 22, 2018”.

Earlier, the BMD secretary general, Gilbert Mangole stated that the November 30 deadline would not be practical.

The UDC constitution clause 11.2.2 says, each group member, in good standing, is entitled to send one delegate for every 750 members or part thereof provided that those delegates were members of their organisation.
