Beef Street is a platform mainly designed by dancers for street dancers of all dance genres to showcase their talent. “The main intention of the Beef Street initiative is to unite dancers and help them develop their dance as well as better their battling skills,” said one of the adjudicators Wabo Motiki.

The event was attended by a total of 21 dancers of different dance styles who battled for the ultimate prize. There were five dance categories: Hip hop, Animation, Kwaito, Krump and B-boy. The dancers were given two rounds each.

The winners from each category automatically proceeded to the next round. The finalists included Animation 2017 winner Grem Salima, Krump 2017 winner Itumeleng ‘Brutal’ Letlole, Hip hop 2017 winner Mpho ‘Ridan’ Phaladi and B-boy 2017 winner Alma Tyro. There were two rounds of battles for the finalists and music was selected randomly. Letlole and Salima emerged as the two finalists. With heartfelt passion, creativity and energy, the two dancers battled it out. Indeed both of them gave outstanding performances and Letlole outdid everyone with his extra ordinary and versatile dancing skills to be the winner of Beef Street All Styles 2017.

Letlole received P500 and four Pauchoco Designs T-shirts. Salima received a photo shoot and videography package deal with AM Productions. Upon winning, Letlole said that he was not expecting to win because the competition was tough. “I just came here to have fun but at the end of the day I made it. I’m proud of myself also because I worked really hard in preparing for Beef Street and surely my hard work paid off,” he said. Representing the adjudicators, Motiki said that they were looking mainly for raw creativity and diversity from the dancers.

The event was proudly sponsored by Pauchoco Designs, which provided the winner with T-shirts, AM productions, responsible for capturing photos and videos of the event as well as Thornhill Primary School for availing the venue. “We are a local T-shirt brand and have been sponsoring Beef Street since 2016 when it began. Basically we are one of the predominant sponsors because we support performing arts especially done by locals,” said Anna Phillips, owner of Pauchoco Designs
