Thutlwe unimpressed with delays in ESP projects

On Monday, Thutlwe told a full council meeting that this year’s backlog eradication under ESP undertaken at Khuduga Primary School is at an approved amount of P15.9 million.
The city mayor said tenders for the construction of three storey teachers flats, classroom and ablution are yet to be awarded and tenders are at evaluation stage and had taken longer than anticipated.
“While it is customary to focus on the non-performance of contractors, this time around I firmly place blame on the doorstep of the administration regarding delays in implementing this project.
“I would like to urge the administration section to put more time and effort in completing the evaluation process and award the tenders as such delays are totally unacceptable,” Thutlwe said.
On the issue of constituency funding, the mayor said consultations for constituency projects funding had been done and it is his hope that preparations for implementation will commence timeously.
“The amount of P10 million for each constituency has been maintained,” he said. Meanwhile on crime issues, Thutlwe said during some wards meetings that he recently held in Gaborone, the residents were concerned by high crime rate in the city and abuse of alcohol and drugs.
“It’s time the community and police join hands to fight crime in the city. There is no day that passes by without people being robbed. The use of drugs by our youth is also a concern. I urge parents to talk to their children about the dangers of taking drugs,” he said.
He said he is delighted by the recent arrests made by the police concerning drugs, especially dagga.
He continued; “It is my belief that swift and appropriate legal action will be taken against the culprits, which will be a lesson to those who are still in the hideouts”.
