Dinaletsana, as the team is called, delivered encouraging performances during the just ended Netball World Youth Cup in Gaborone where they finished 10th out of 20 countries. They lost only two games.

The technical team has considered the performance a great achievement, looking at the quality of the competition.

Thebekgosi told Mmegi Sport they will do everything possible to keep the players active to build momentum. She said they want to bring the best out of the players in order to motivate even aspiring netball players, more so after the attention the team received from BONA and the nation at large.

“We are working on a programme that will keep the team together because most of them come from different places and they have finished school. Therefore, the programme that we are designing will allow them to meet for training and matches so that they play together as they did during the World Cup,” she said.

“We have sat down with others (players) to know their views as well as to let them know what we are planning for them,” she added.

Thebekgosi added that the implementation of the programme will not take longer as she has been advised to act on it as soon as possible and submit the proposal to the Botswana National Sport Commission and Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development.

She said the performance displayed during the World Cup deserves to be applauded and the association has to retain the players.

Meanwhile, My Spar Botswana has fulfilled its commitments during the tournament in which the Botswana player of the match was rewarded with P1,000. The team received overwhelming support, with thousands paying to watch the national side, while others watched on television.
