The competition was sponsored by The Good Samaritan Foundation to the tune of P80,000.

The tournament attracted 67 clubs from the constituency, which were divided into social and youth clubs. Mmakgoroba won the social clubs championship through a penalty shoot out after the final ended in a 1-1 draw against Matlapeng. Mmakgoroba won all their matches and their goalkeeper, Oageng Lebang walked away with the goalkeeper of the tournament award.

Last year’s winners, Big Six finished fourth after losing to Spook Rangers 3-0 in the semi-final. Matlapeng finished as runners-up while Rangers finished third. Other clubs that competed in the tournament were Dikwena Masters, Blue House FC, MoAfrica FC and African Legends FC. All the clubs received an appearance fee of P1,500.

Mmakgoroba coach, Moreetsi Salobati told Mmegi Sport that they are proud of their achievement after finishing third last year. He said they came into the tournament well equipped and were ready to walk away with the trophy.

“We came here with sharp minds and knowing what we wanted to achieve. The moral was high in the camp. We won all the three matches that we played to reach the final. Next year, we intend to defend the championship,” he said.

The Good Samaritan Foundation chairperson, Kabo Morwaeng said the community was impressed with the first edition hence the decision to have it this year. He said there was growth this year as the tournament was spread to other areas. “Last year, the appearance fee was P1,000 but now we increased it to P1,500. We also reached other villages surrounding Molepolole. The attendance was brilliant and we kept the youth busy,” he said.

Morwaeng said 67 clubs took part in the competition from the eight last year. He said that is an indication that there has been growth.

He said the Foundation is the main sponsor, but added that  doors are not closed for anyone  who would like to assist financially. Morwaeng said if they had the financial muscle, they could host the tournament every holiday. However, it will continue to be held once a year. He said the sponsorship is not all about finance, but any kind of support is accepted.

The new areas that took part in the tournament were Mantsho, Mmagwana, Lephaleng, Gamodubu, Mmanoko and Ramakgatlanyana.
