This revelation came after the MP for Selebi-Phikwe West Dithapelo Keorapetse had asked the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration whether the Poverty Eradication Programme has been evaluated, if so, to furnish MPs with the report and if not why?

“Statistics Botswana was engaged to conduct a multi-topic household survey, which study will provide indicators on the impact in November 2015 and was completed in October 2016. Statistics Botswana is currently analyzing the data to provide poverty indicators. The results of the survey are expected before the end of the financial year,” Minister of Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration Eric Molale said.

He said the Government has used P836.2 million and the amount covered packages/projects for beneficiaries as well as administrative functions and logistics.

On other issues, MPs were told that there is no formal policy on localisation of the Court of Appeal, whose composition is determined under the Constitution of Botswana by the Judicial Service Commission. “Since the appointment in October 2010 of first citizen president, and members of the Court of Appeal, steps have been taken to progress the localisation of the court at an appropriate pace so as to ensure continuity and proper standards of delivery of justice. To date four additional citizen appointments have been made, and presently the court is made up of four citizens and four eminent retired justices from other jurisdictions two from Scotland and two from South Africa,” Minister of Defence, Justice and Security Shaw Kgathi said.

He said the process of localisation would continue as the present incumbents complete their terms of office, or retire on account of advanced years and as determined from time to time by the Judicial Service Commission.
