According to a press statement from the organisation,, a total of 44,427 candidates sat for the examinations this year, showing candidature increase of 4.49% compared to the 2016 candidature of 42,517.
“The 2017 PSLE overall performance indicates that the proportion of candidates obtaining Grade C or better went up by 1.11% from 70.51% in 2016 to 71.62% in 2017. The percentage of candidates obtaining Grade A in this examination has gone up by 1.06% from 16.05% recorded in 2016 to 17.11%.
Currently, there are 18.78% of candidates at Grade B compared to 17.88% in 2016, representing a slight increase of about one percent.” “At the lower grades, the proportion of candidates at Grade D has decreased by 0.47% from 22.09% in 2016 to 21.62% in 2017.
There has also been a decrease of 0.75% from 7.30% in 2016 to 6.55% in 2017 at Grade E,” it states.
The increase in the pass rate, though marginal, should come as a balm to sore hearts of parents following a public outcry last year of fallling education standards.
