One of the hopefuls, Kgang Kgang, has written a letter of complaint to the party secretary general, Mpho Balopi pleading that another candidate, Tshephang Mabaila be reprimanded for ‘playing dirty’. Kgang accuses Mabaila of sponsoring a story to a popular Facebook page Daniel Dan Kenosi in a bid to discredit him as a trustworthy candidate.

He also complains that Mabaila is controlling the branch even though he is not in the branch committee. “Mabaila is a law unto himself and some of his campaign team members are members of the branch committee contrary to Article 10 of the code of conduct. He uses his house-to-house campaign for rumour mongering and castigating other candidates as he alleges he is sent by the most top leadership of the party, namely the party President [Ian Khama], to represent Mogoditshane. He even threatens members of structures with expulsion from the party by the President.

This contravenes Article 17 of the code of conduct,” Kgang said.

He said the general conduct of Mabaila is of disrespect of other party members and sowing seeds of disunity, which will not help in reversing their misfortune in the constituency. “It is unfortunate that even his conduct in the general public displays the party leadership as that which uses selective justice and favours. This is despite him being reprimanded and encouraged to desist from using the President’s name by the Private Secretary to the President. The same behaviour is reflected by his campaign team.”

However Mabaila said the copy of the letter he received from Kgang was not official since it was not signed. “I have not used the Presidents’ name to campaign. Again I do not discuss with the media the party issues. I believe there is a motive to tarnish my name by some politicians simply because I had shown interest to contest for the seat.

I challenge anyone who is accusing me of something to provide evidence about such allegations,” Mabaila said. Kgang refused to comment on the matter and said if he has any complaint, he raises it with the proper party structures.
