Amahots First Minute Goal Sink Chouka

Mogomotsi Tlou posted a long free kick into the box from the left, the goalkeeper and defenders miscommunicated and failed to clear. Owen Ferguson pounced from the blind spot and headed home in a match played at the Palapye Swallows ground.

It became a daunting task for Chouka to find their footing in the game. They had a half chance in the fifth minute when Thatayaone Magazi was at the end of Itumeleng Mabuaaeme’s free kick inside the 18 yard, but his connection lacked conviction.

As the half wore on, frustrations caught up with Chouka and they committed a lot of errors that affected their decision-making.

“The early goal took us off. We got too eager to equalise and when we failed we made wrong decisions and committed unnecessary errors,” Chouka stand-in coach, Letlogile Seoforeng said after the game.

From the break it was a one-way traffic. Chouka looked more enterprising in attack. They created well but poor decision-making continued to haunt them.

Magazi had two clear-cut chances. First one-on-one against the keeper but his poke was tame and the keeper collected.

With 15 minutes before the end, Amahot, smelling a win, put all men behind the ball to frustrate Chouka.

Chouka’s bad day in the office was summed up by a delicate Omphemetse Bolofete’s curling free kick that was tipped over by a full stretched Kago Mmipi.

Amahot’s coach, Wame Mokoka said his players are responding well to their strategies. He said the game was played to script. “Motlakase is a technically gifted side with skilful players, good ball retention and they are competing for promotion. We knew an early goal could destablise them and closing them down would frustrate them and we did that perfectly.” Seoforeng said the game is a wake-up call going forward. He said his players will learn from the loss and prepare for such mishaps in the future.
