White City Murderer Remanded In Custody

A 30-year-old man, Aplee Mogotsi, is suspected to have raped and killed the nine-year-old girl who is the daughter of his former girlfriend.

On Friday, prosecutor Sergeant Batambuli Gakemoitse pleaded with the Extension II magistrate, Batho Kgerethwa to extend the accused’s remand warrant because they have not wrapped up investigations.

“I have discussed with the investigating officer, who told me that he is yet to record witness statements.  We plead with the court to extend his remand warrant,” said Gakemoitse. He said they are awaiting a report from the forensics laboratory.

It is said that the mother reported her child missing before her lifeless body in its blood-soaked clothes was found in the street near her home. According to the police, there are suspicions that the girl was raped before being killed, as disturbing injuries were found on her body.

It is said that the mother had left her two children, the deceased and her younger sibling sleeping the night before her death and went to a bar and on return, early in the morning, she realised the deceased was missing.

It is said that the accused and the mother of the child had broken up recently.

The incident infuriated White City residents who wanted to take law into their own hands by meting out instant justice.

However, the police drove their car into the suspect’s yard and managed to scurry the suspect to safety.  The suspect has been ordered to appear in court on December 21.
