In an interview with Showbiz, BOPEU second deputy president for Gender and Youth Affairs, Ogaufi Masame said they decided to bring back the prestigious event after failing to host it last year due to budget constraints. Masame said the event that started back in 2014 was aimed at giving back to the community.

“In the previous two years we were able to raise enough funds through this cultural night event where we were able to sponsor two people who needed kidney replacements. We are proud because through this initiative those kidney patients have regained their health.

This year, we would like to continue to give back to the less privileged people in our community,” she said. However, she pointed out that they have not yet established which charity organisation they will sponsor this year. She said the organisation that will be selected to get the sponsorship will be selected based on an intense assessment.

This year, the cultural event will be held under a theme, ‘Seboka re bata sa mokwatla sa mpa re a mpampetsa’. The event will be held at the Tlotlo Hotel and Conference Centre. The event will be filled with a number of various traditional poetry, dance, choirs, various native languages and traditional foods.

The revellers will have an opportunity to taste some of the delicious Setswana dishes such as bogobe jwa lerotse, dikgobe, seswaa, morogo wa Setswana, kabu and others.

The event is filled with rich entertainment from some of Setswana artists such as Sereetsi and the Natives, Dr Vom, Rangers Choir, Culture Spears, Solly Sebotso, Ditiro Leero, Dipela tsa ga Kobokwe, Moroka Moreri and others.

Masame said the event was open for the community at large saying that they had invited guests from neighbouring countries such as Lesotho, Swaziland and others who will also showcase their cultures. She said the guest of honour will be Kgosi Puso Gaborone. Revellers are encouraged to wear their beautiful traditional attires.
