Horrific injury exposes shortcomings

This follows an incident in which Broadhurst United striker, Mmoloki Lenamile suffered an injury and it took close to 20 minutes before he could be assisted.

The incident took place in the second half of the tie between Broadhurst and Notwane on Saturday as Lenamile was tussling for an aerial ball. His side’s medical team tried to assist only to realise that the injury was serious and the player had to be taken to the hospital.

However, without a stretcher to ferry him to a waiting vehicle, it took almost 20 minutes before volunteers from the two teams resorted to carrying him for a distance of about 200 metres.

The venue, Sharps Ground which does not have any access point for vehicles, presented a challenge to the authorities.  Speaking to Mmegi Sport yesterday, Magagane said it is a major challenge because there is a shortage of suitable facilities for the lower division matches.

“First Division sides do not have facilities and this will always present challenges unlike in the Premier League where they use stadiums,” he said. Magagane said for now it is a difficult situation even with the resources, but added that they are trying by all means to talk to the Councils from where the teams play and see if they cannot assist with resources next season.

Lenamile’s injury marred what was a highly contested match. Tlhalefo Molebatsi and Falkirk Shabane’s goals gave Notwane a 2-0 win over Broadhurst United in a sweet revenge after the latter had broken Notwane’s unbeaten run in the first round. The victory ensured that Notwane keep up the pace with log leaders, Prisons XI and second-placed Mogoditshane Fighters. Notwane remain in position three as the league goes into the Christmas break.

Prisons XI will go into the break at the summit of the log standings after they registered a 3-0 win over Letlapeng on Saturday. The Warders retained top spot with 26 points. Fighters are second with the same number of points, but with an inferior goal difference. Fighters overcame visiting Black Rangers on Saturday. Broadhurst United’s loss to Notwane has since relegated them to position five from position four while Black Peril moved into position four after they 1-1 draw against Modipane United.

Meanwhile, Letlapeng dropped to position 12 after their defeat to Prisons XI while Lesirane moved to position 11 after their draw against Matebejane.
