Suspected serial rapist further remanded

Moloi is facing three counts of rape, including the one that he allegedly committed in 2014. He has been on the run, but was arrested in October after evading the police several months.

The first rape was allegedly committed on March 25, 2014, the second on March 12, 2017 and the third on April 16, 2017 all at Ledumang.

When appearing before Broadhurst magistrate, Gaseitsewe Tonoki yesterday, the accused wondered why a matter, which the police withdrew because they have misplaced his blood samples, has been reinstated.

His comments followed the prosecution’s plea to be given time to extract more blood samples from the accused for analysis.

“The prosecution has extracted blood samples from me. I don’t know what more they want.

They have reinstated a matter, which was withdrawn in 2014. Why are they reinstating it because they said they couldn’t find the samples? Which ones are they going to match them with to prosecute me? Your worship, you must look closely at this matter. They just want to incriminate me,” he said.

However, state prosecutor, Inspector Oamogetswe Gaboutlwelwe said they extracted one unit of blood sample for analysis, but have been advised by the experts at the laboratory that each case should have its on blood sample. She said they have to extract two more units of blood from the accused for analysis.

“We were able to extract blood samples from the accused person. But we have been advised to submit two more units so that each case has an independent unit,” she said.

She pleaded with court to extend the accused’s remand warrant.

Meanwhile, the accused has applied for bail. He presented a written bail application to the court, but refused to motivate for it. He will appear in court today when the prosecution will present their reply to the application.
