The event dubbed Clash of Choirs will be a night of choral where three choirs will showcase their talent at Westwood International School amphitheatre (Mantlwaneng) on July 22. In an interview with the event public relation officer, Kenanao Rakgano said the three choirs, St Bernadette and Mogoditshane UCCSA will be sharing the podium with Gaborone Philharmornic Voice choir where each choir will show the audience what it is made of.

“This is an interesting event as we will see church choirs battling out with a community based choir. This event will be contributing to the growth of choral music in the country. This concert will give us an opportunity to have musical exchange between the community and church choirs,” she said.

She said the night of musical exchange will add to the growth of that musical platform. Rakgono added that the event was aimed at raising funds for the choir as it mostly comprised of about 85% youth from the church. She said the choir always had hectic year plan filled with many activities and trips that require more funds hence the Clash of Choirs idea was born by the technical team of St Bernadette Church choir.

“The team believed that the church choir was more limited to the two events in the Catholic calendar being the Bishop Festival and Gaborone Diocese Annual Choir Festival even though the choirs are tremendously growing in terms of performance,” she said.

She explained that when coming up with the idea, they decided to bring on board two church choirs and a community choir so as to bring a variety of music from the two choral fraternities, which are the church and the community.

She added that the event started last year and that they intended to make it an annual event.  She promised the audience that they would be treated to nothing but rich and beautiful choral music performance from the choirs. The entrance fee is P100 per person. The event will start at 6.30pm till late.
