Jwaneng hosts the Desert Bush Walk

CSI-Concepts Foundationbrings the 30km Annual Charity Walk in conjunction with The Desert Bush Walk Local Organising Committee (LOC).  Giving an update on the preparations during a media brief yesterday, one of the organisers Lebogang Pillar said the walk will start in Jwaneng, then take a bush trail into the desert ending back in Jwaneng. She said 100% of the proceeds from the walk are to be used on sustainable educational projects and disadvantaged children. 

She highlighted that the main objective of the walk is to raise funds towards sustainable educational projects and disadvantaged Children in Mabutsane/Jwaneng area even beyond the district. “With this walk we also aim to promote and brand Jwaneng as a tourism destination for both local and international tourists, under the Culture and Sports Tourism Portfolio,” she said. 

Pillar said the tickets for the 30km walk are sold at P200 and includes refreshments, t-shirt and finishers medal while the 10km tickets is P100 and will include finishers medal and refreshments.  During the media briefing, there was also an announcement of sponsors and partners.

Representing one of the sponsors, Golekanye Molapisi from BTC said they are happy and excited to be part of this initiative.  “It’s our first time being part of this walk and we decided to get involved because of what we stand for as BTC,” he said. Molapisi said they want to become partners in the future. 

“This event is meant to help those who can’t help themselves therefore everyone should be part of this walk,” he said. 

The managing director of Liberty Life Botswana Lulu Rasebotsa said this is more of collaboration than sponsorship. She swore that Liberty Life would also like to be partners in the future. She said at Liberty Life they believe in knowing that is why they are part of the initiative.

“This encourages physical health and financial wellness,” she said.  After the walk, Shakes Fitness Centre will provide free aerobabathon and spinning for those who bought the 30km tickets while the 10km tickets holders will pay a small fee. Dladleng Amusement Park and Campsite, Mokala Lodge and Cresta Lodge will provide accommodation at a reasonable price. Patmore Transport and bus hire will be transporting participants from Gaborone to Jwaneng and back to Gaborone after the walk.
