U-19 boys perform dismally in Cricket World Cup qualifiers

Statistics from the different matches played during the qualifiers reflect that the team had a weak batting and fielding system, which resulted in the side being the biggest loser in the qualifiers. Kenya was the best team and qualified for the Under-19 World Cup to be held in New Zealand next year.

“Well, these are not pleasing results and we were not expecting such a performance from the team. Now they have experienced how the qualifiers are like and hopefully they will improve,” Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) fixtures and publicity secretary, Sumod Damodar said.

With the team’s coach, Joseph Angara staying behind in his home country, Kenya, after the qualifiers it raised speculation that he has been sacked due to the dismal performance. However, Damodar said Angara is still the coach. “The coach can only do so much. We did not part ways with him.  He stayed behind in Kenya because he took a few days off.  He will be coming back this week and we will continue working with him.

Meanwhile, Damodar was recently elected into the International Cricket Council (ICC) Chief Executives Committee (CEC).  The CEC is the link between the Development Committee and Cricket Committee and the ICC Board.  This is the first time that Botswana has contested for any position in the ICC.  He will be in office for the next two years.
