ATI, Amantle Brown, Leungo impress at Mahika Mahikeng

Taking the stage first at the well-attended Mahika Mahikeng‘s Jazz festival on Sunday was Amantle Brown and her flexible dance crew who kept the audience on their toes as they watched their seductive moves. By the time she sang Follow the crowd started dancing along and Juju Boy joining her on stage had women screaming their lungs out.
‘Lekhete lele tona’, ATI did not give them a chance to digest that as he surprisingly entered the stage without any stunt. Dressed casually, ATI, was welcomed on stage by a horde of Batswana who raised their passports throughout his performances. Kick starting his performance, the energetic ATI sang Poelo Morago and when he thanked the crowd, people could be heard screaming Khiring Khorong, which he performed next before signing off the stage.
Leungo Pitse, who was the MC alongside Somizi, also outdid himself as he kept the same energy levels as Somizi. For a second a part of the crowd could not tell that the versatile Pitse was from Botswana as they kept asking who he was. He made a grand entrance dancing the trending Omunye song, to the amusement of the crowd. By the time he sang, This Woman’s Work one would swear it was Maxwell performing. Other performances of the day included Vusi Nova, Caiphus and Leta, Lucas Senyatso, Mafikizolo, Mmaausi, Kaylow, Robbie Malinga, TS, Amanda Black, Selaelo Selota, Zonke, Musa, KB, Quincy K Encore, Tshedi Mholo, Zahara, Beesting, Samthing Soweto, Sjava and Ezbie Moilwa.
The jam packed event, which is in its third year, started with a joyous celebration night on Thursday, followed by Maftown heights on Friday, comedy night on Saturday and the Jazz festival on Sunday.
Mahika Mahikeng Cultural Festival is an earmarked arts economic development programme aligned to the state of the province objectives and supports the rebranding, repositioning and renewal programme of the provincial government.
Mahika Mahikeng as a music and cultural festival provides a platform for product, position and paradigm innovation for the creative industries sector in Bokone Bophirima and the development of Mahikeng as the capital of the arts in the country. Last year local artists who participated in the event included BanT, who performed on Friday alongside South African motswako legends and Tomeletso Sereetsi of ‘Sereetsi and the Natives’ who gave a thrilling performance leaving the audience yearning for more.
