Choppies keen on sponsoring football

Choppies chief executive officer, Ramachandran Ottapathu told Mmegi Sport that they are in talks with the mother body, the Botswana Football Association (BFA) over a sponsorship deal for the youth league and grassroots football.  “At the moment we are talking to BFA regarding sponsoring the Under-17 and the grassroots,” Ottapathu said. He said in future they will also look at (sponsoring) the league, but their interest at the moment is grassroots football, which BFA president, Maclean Letshwiti has prioritised.

“We are focusing on the grassroots as we believe it is the one that needs more financial assistance than the league,” he said.

The BFA has introduced a national youth league, but the cash strapped association will look for more money to finance the project. Choppies was recently involved in athletics after shelling out P500,000 to sponsor the GC Mayor’s Marathon in September.

However, the athletes were unpaid for a lengthy period, leading to the intervention of Ottapathu. The athletes were only paid last week.
