Galaxy face Mozambican side in CAF debut

The draw for the preliminary and first rounds was conducted in Cairo on Wednesday and provided a relatively kind draw for the debutants.
Galaxy travel to Maputo on the weekend of 9-11 February next year, before the return leg in Botswana, a week later. The Mozambican side is not intimidating, having made their last appearance in the Confederations Cup seven years ago, where they went out in the first round.
The side will be making its eighth appearance in the Confederations Cup, although it has only done so once since it was renamed from Cup Winners’ Cup. In fact, they have never gone beyond the second round, and this should encourage Galaxy, although the local side is undergoing a rough patch of its own.
They are fast slipping in the title chase, and after a bright start, have slid to third behind leaders, Township Rollers and second placed, Gaborone United. Galaxy, who won the Mascom Top 8 cup at the first attempt last season, are however, still in the hunt in the knockout competition. But they have parted with experienced coach, Mike Sithole and his assistant Michael Mogaladi, and are still to get a substantive replacement.
Despite the minor upheavals, Galaxy still has experienced players like the Zimbabwean pair, Terence Mandaza and Patrick Kaunda.
No immediate comment could be obtained from club officials on the draw.
