“Due to our financial struggles, we are not going to stand on the way of the players who have intentions to leave the club because we wouldn’t want to keep unhappy players. We have four players who are out of contract,” he said.
He revealed that Mpoeleng Mpoeleng, Vincent Marumo and Remmington Masuku are some of the players whose contracts ended with the club.
He said teams have already started enquiring about their players. “Township Rollers and BDF XI have shown interest on Lovemore Bogatsu though he is still contracted to us. We have given them a go ahead to talk to the player,” he revealed.
He said Bogatsu reported to training from off-season and was given permission to rest because he was sick.
In addition, Tshupego said another player Mokgethi Mokgethi would not honour his contract because of school commitment.
But not all players are ready to pack. He said at least seven players who promised to stay on with the club this coming season, as they have noted that financial challenges are everywhere.
Tshupego said only 11 players have reported for training from off-season. He said all players were expected to report back on July 3. “Preparations are not yet where we want them to be. The reason why we have not completed selection on the on-going trials is that we are not yet sure of how many players will be leaving the club.
As soon as we are sure of who will be staying and who will be leaving, that is when we will make a decision on how many players to sign from the trials to fill the gaps,” he said.
The chairperson said they intend to bounce back to BTC Premier League next season. He was happy that they are not going to travel long distance which was going to hit them hard financially, adding that they have been given the go ahead to use the Selebi-Phikwe council stadium, which is now known as Sam Sono Stadium, for free. Remmington Masuku, whose contract ended with the club, said he has no intension of signing new contract with the club. Masuku attended trials at Mbombela United in South Africa for a week.
He said the club wanted to sign him and then loan him to Umthatha Bush Bucks. But, according to Masuku, the move did not materialise because his manager and the club did not agree on terms. Masuku said he has few offers from BTC Premiership clubs, but was not in a position to reveal the teams.
