Modungwa Decries Injustice

Speaking at his farewell party on Friday, Modungwa urged all to cross over to the other side where there is no corruption, injustice, and excessive self-interest.
“We must stand up and fight for justice. We must do things according to the letter and spirit of the law. Our dealings must always be above the board. We must lead responsible lives. It we fail to take heed now, we will perish as a nation,” he said.
Modungwa advised the BQA acting CEO Ezekiel Thekiso to stand by what is right in carrying out his duties and not be intimidated by anyone. “I have been investigated by all the institutions you can think of including the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC), but it never bothered me because I was living by the book and had my integrity intact,” he said.
Modungwa, who in 2000 was appointed the founding CEO of Botswana Training Authority (BOTA), was hailed by various stakeholders, as a humble hardworking man. Permanent secretary at the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Theophillus Mooko challenged Modungwa to pen a book on his reflections of education in Botswana.
“You have worked so hard in turbulent and challenging times, where there was uncertainty at BOTA which is now BQA and TEC which is now HRDC. You have done so much on development of regulatory mechanisms,” he said.
Mooko also hailed Modungwa for initiating and taking part in turning BOCODOL into an Open University.
He also thanked Modungwa for the role he played in establishing BQA stating that he laid a solid foundation, which others will build on in a bid to provide quality assurance.
For his part, BQA board chairperson Charles Siwawa described Modungwa as a visionary, result-oriented, dependable and customer focused leader.
“He is passionate and committed to the development and management of the education, training and skills development system in Botswana and the region,” he said.
Siwawa said BQA through the leadership of Modungwa has sailed through turbulent waters, but achieved their mandate under the resources shortcomings. Modungwa said he was now going to serve God as a full time pastor and a farmer.
