Ba Isago University Receives Accreditation

He said this at the handing over of the Institutional Accreditation Certificate Ceremony held at the institution’s premises yesterday.

Giving his welcome remarks, Gabasiane pointed out that the institution shareholders and staff had worked hard to obtain a university status and in accreditation of all its courses.  “Ba Isago has under 3,000 students and we are happy with the number of students, the quality of the academy and the quality of staff we have.

The auditors, assessors took heed of our learners. We are pleased to announce that right now we are the only university to have undergone thorough scrutiny and were able to get accreditation. We are now a fully fledged university,” he said proudly.

Gabasiane added that the university would become a legacy that the public together with the future generations would be proud of. He further added that in order to keep its high standards, the university has introduced a programme where it will not enroll students that have points less than 40 on their Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Examination (BGCSE).

For his part, Ba Isago University president Roshen Kishun said in 2017 the country’s former president Festus Mogae invited the private education sector to help in Botswana’s commitment to increase its gross enrollment ratio from seven percent in 2003/4 to at least 17% by 2016 to meet the millennium development goal. He noted that interestingly, as a result of private sector intervention, that goal was reached in 2009.

“In Botswana, the private education sector is now an integral part of the higher education landscape enrolling about 43%  students. During these years we were guided by the then Tertiary Education Council (TEC) and Botswana Training Authority (BOTA) which were formally replaced by the HRDC and BQA Acts promulgated in 2013,” he said.

Kishun further explained that Ba Isago emerged, successfully and triumphantly, from what was arguably its most grueling and rigorous test of its institutional capacities, depths, talents and strengths in the history of its existence. He added that their full university status was conferred in 2015.

He said it was attained under the developmental approach, which was in place; the enormity and significance of their latest unconditional and unqualified re-accreditation for a period of 10 years, as a full university, under more intensive and robust assessment criteria, which was a substantially greater and more enviable achievement.
