Graduates urged to apply skills learned

Graduates were also encouraged not only to depend on office jobs as they move into a stage of critical choices and new beginnings. The university was also celebrating their 20 years of existence.
Speaking during the 2017 Botho University graduation ceremony on Wednesday, assistant Minister of Tertiary Education Research Science and Technology Fidelis Molao also praised the University for being one of the institutions that have been outstanding for the past 20 years in producing knowledgeable graduates.
Molao also praised the graduates for making it this far, urging them to use the knowledge gained through their learning period to explore opportunities in the world.
“The reality on the ground is that government sponsorship is limited due to budgetary constraints. However, those who got an opportunity to study should stand up after studies to make sure that they assist the government in creating jobs,” Molao said.
He said success is not a straight line, but a series of twists and turns, and that the graduates should always strive to seek new innovative ideas and embrace possibilities.
Universities were also urged to be innovative in programme development, not only at graduate level, but also at the technical and skills levels so as to fully meet human capital needs of the economy.
“I would like to congradulate Botho University for demonstrating a clear commitment to provision of quality education as evidenced by the extensive investment in infrastructure, systems, staff development and quality initiatives,” Molao said. For his part the Vice Chancellor education and quality of Botho University Ananth Ram said the graduates have been educated and carry the institution graduate profile to the world.
He highlighted that the graduates are hardworking, innovative, entrepreneurial, articulate and knowledgeable.
“When students who have dedicated their lives to acquiring knowledge, skills and competencies, now get to begin a new life where they use this knowledge to drive the economy, it brings joy and happiness to the university as well.
Therefore, I am proud to say that our graduates are creative, and always strive to improve existing ideas to achieve better results,” Ram said. He further encouraged employers to open their doors to the graduates, and provide them with a platform to display their knowledge, skills and competencies.
Meanwhile about 800 graduates received their various academic awards. Several university chancellors and managements attended the event.
