Motlakase finish the first round three points behind leaders, BR Highlanders. The City Greens rout was Motlakase’s second consecutive defeat that blew their chances of climbing to the top. They lost by a solitary goal to Mahalapye United Hotspurs a fortnight ago.

City Greens who have been on their worst run, remain in the red zone but climbed one position above Real Movers to number 10. Their goals came from Editor Otlaadisa’s brace and a goal each from Onkemetse Powe, Godfrey Seabelo and Griller Senzeni. Mamoja’s coach, Atshele Molapi said the three points are important but it is unfortunate they came to the party right at the end of the first round. He said the momentum has been building but fears the festive season will knock them back to square one. He said their other worry as a financially unstable side, is the transfer window.

“We have done well in the past three games but we failed to convert. We got everything right against Motlakase, unfortunately it was at the very last game ahead of the festive season.” “A lot happens during the break and obviously our players are going to return at different levels and, that is for those who will return because the transfer window is also here.” “A lot might happen and it will take us some time after the break to get back to where we are, but we will continue with a similar fighting spirit.” FDN secretary general, Rapula Gaotlhobogwe hailed the teams for an impressive and competitive first round. He said they experienced fewer hiccups that were mostly postponements caused by rains. “The teams were focused on the game. We have seen beautiful football full of surprises and the differences on the log table speaks volumes. Many teams are still in with a chance to win it. “We had little problems on the table and we are happy for the cooperation from our clubs. The problems we had were minor and were beyond us but we still managed to finish on time.

“We wish the second round could carry on as the first round. We can’t complain about the supporters, our league has very keen followers.”
