Uncle charged with nephews murder

Mochudi police station commander, Simon Sitale told Mmegi that the argument between the two family members who hail from Mookane village, started when they were drinking.

“It is reported that the uncle took something blunt and hit his nephew with it and he passed out. He was rushed to Princess Marina Hospital but the doctor certified him dead on arrival,” Sitale said.

He stated that investigations on the matter are ongoing to establish the cause of the misunderstanding.

Sitale expressed concern over the rising number of murder cases in his policing area. He said last year they recorded 13 murder cases and this year from January to June they have already recorded eight murder cases.

He said that in many cases, the murders take place after arguments at bars, shebeens and other entertainment spots.

“We have observed that heavy alcohol consumption is usually behind these criminal acts and as such we have been visiting entertainment places holding public seminars to sensitise people,” Sitale said.

He said the police in the area have also engaged spiritual leaders and joined hands with the community, following the increase in murder, suicide and fatal accidents. “I am concerned about incidents in which people lose their lives. We recently held prayers to ask for God’s mercy on those unpleasant incidents,” he said.
