SEDC procures bus for students� trips

Over P1 million is expected to be spent on the bus by the end of financial year. Currently the SEDC has one 65-seater bus and three sprinters. The issue arose after some students of Matsha Senior School were involved in a horrific accident in 2015.
“The Council took a resolution after some of our schools complained that at times they are forced to drop the school trips if the Central Transport Organisation (CTO) buses had been all booked. With two 65-seater buses, we believe that it will help to address the problems of transport shortage that is already there. Trucks will then be used to transport goods for students,” SDEC chairperson Phenyo Segokgo said.
He said the buses will even help the council officers or councillors when they go for trips.
“The Council is expecting two more vehicles before end of December 2017; one for the fire department and one for the Tlokweng Sub District. A contract has been signed with AT&T Bus Builders (Pty) Ltd to supply a 65-seater bus at an amount of P1,589,355.45 for Tlokweng Sub District.”
Segokgo told councillors that shortage of transport has been a challenge as far as project monitoring is concerned hence a deliberate decision was taken to address this challenge.
To further intensify project monitoring and improving service delivery, the Council managed to procure seven vehicles through the RCCO vote, he said.
In addition to that, the chairperson this year said the council managed to procure a rapid intervention vehicle, seven double cabs and a utility bakkie.
“These vehicles have already been allocated to user departments. One double cab has been allocated to Tlokweng, two double cabs to headquarters (Technical Services), one double cab to headquarters (Finance and Administration) and three allocated to South East South Sub District. A utility bakkie has been allocated to public relations office,” he said.
