Botswana ready as softball qualifiers moved to January

According to a letter sent to softball federations by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) vice chairperson-Africa, Mashilo Matsetela, the decision to postpone the games was reached during the executive committee’s discussions and is meant to give more countries enough time to prepare for the event.
“Again we would like the tournament to be sanctioned by the WBSC. Furthermore, WBSC office will handle the communication to the member countries,” reads part of the letter. Meanwhile, Zambia has pulled out of the qualifiers as it does not have a full women’s team.
Botswana Softball Association (BSA) spokesperson, Kelebogile Seitei told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they have assembled a team that would compete during the qualifiers. She said Botswana women’s team made its last appearance at the World Cup that was held in Holland in 2014.
“We stand a good chance of qualifying. The mood is high and the players know what is expected from them. All they have to do is to remain focussed. You can even pick from the performance of our women’s teams in the local league. They have grown as players with good ball handling skills, good fielding and other tactics are spot on,” she said.
Players called for the national team camp: Wangu Gondo, Malebogo Ramaphane, Akanyang Lawrence, Iponeng Molapong, Gaamangwe Moagi, Kelebogile Lesesere, Bonolo Molefe, Othusitse Olatheng, Oreabetswe Mojeremane, Kagiso Lowang, Moshabe Botsile, Onalenna Ntibi, Goitseone Munyadzwe, Boitshwarelo Sefo, Lesego Rankwala, Lereng Mokghotle, Katlego Thande,
Batshane Nguane, Gotlamang Sixpence, Irene Mutenge, Lesego Ditau, Balekele Tomeletso and Galeboe Mfolwe.
