Another BDP Member Suspended

Siele is alleged to have assaulted some of the BDP members following an argument during Moselewapula ward congress last month. Moselewapula ward is in Gaborone Bonnington North constituency.

The ward was electing delegates that will be voting at party congress scheduled to take place this Friday. The members are divided between Vice President, Mokweetsi Masisi’s team and Infrastructure and Housing Development Minister, Nonofo Molefhi’s team.

The BDP deputy executive secretary, Ame Makoba, confirmed that a member was recently suspended.

“We cannot release the name of our party member to the media. The member is suspended for 60 days and is charged with bringing party name into disrepute,” Makoba said.

However, The Monitor has learnt that Siele was suspended after Gaborone region made a recommendation of suspension and availed evidence that might be needed to the party.

It is alleged that a fight erupted after several known Masisi supporters were turned down in their attempts to vote, as they were not registered in the ward.

According to a source, Masisi supporters brought voters from different wards that are not registered at Moselewapula ward.

“When the ward committee turned down those ferried from other wards, the ward chairperson, Siele got angry and assaulted committee members, Modiehi Macheng and Carol Sibanda,” a source said.

Siele’s assault case is still before Gaborone West police station.

The Monitor is informed that the Gaborone region has however dismissed a protest, which was lodged at Gaborone South constituency concerning the delegates.

The region chairperson, MacDonald Peloetetse said all the delegates that some members were complaining about qualify.

“The region has ordered a re-run at Moselewapula only,” Peloetetse said.
