BDP Blamed For BCL Mine Closure

Phage said if the government had no money to sustain the mine, where did they get the billions to buy the Gripen fighter aircraft? “We are in the second generation of human rights, if you deny people to work like what is happening in this town, you will be denying them the right to live,” he said.

He encouraged members to vote for change as the government has failed them. He urged them to lure in new members and create party membership. “There is no life here, prepare yourselves so that by the time elections come, you would have all registered to vote. As residents of Selebi-Phikwe you have a chance to rescue yourselves from this mess, that can only happen by voting in a new government,” he said.

BCP youth league publicity secretary, Dimpho Mashaba said they have started their journey towards victory in 2019. He said as members and Selebi Phikwe residents, the time has come to introspect. “We told you that if you are going to vote for BDP, you will be killing the economy of this town. That is the message we were preaching going into the elections, but you never listened to us. Today we should ask ourselves that since 2014 elections, how many jobs were created by the ruling party in this town. BDP has never cared about us,” he said.

He said there used to be a power station, which created jobs for the residents and was closed by the BDP led government. He said as BCP they believe that the economy of Selebi-Phikwe can be revived. “We should take a decision that in 2019 we put the future of this town first by voting members of Parliament and councillors who can bring change to this town,” Mashaba said.

Botshabelo East councillor, Kgakgamatso Ramatopi said 2019 will be an opportunity for members and Selebi-Phikwe residents to free themselves from slavery.

He said the Ipelegeng programme by the ruling party has never given anyone a decent life and that government should have done better rather than bringing programmes that can never take people anywhere. He accused the government impoverishing his constituents. “As members ,we should take steps and speak to people about these issues because failingwhich, we will find ourselves depending on these programmes by the ruling party,” he said.

Vain Mamela who was supposed to be a guest speaker at the meeting, was said to be attending Elmon Tafa’s burial. Among those who attended the meeting was parliamentary candidate for Bobirwa Constituency Taolo Lucas, Thulaganyo Lucas a councillor at Rastimela in Bobonong and Molatlhegi Molefe of Botshabelo Central.
