Murder accused claims innocence

The accused, Prince Moyo, 24, of Maboledi village in Zimbabwe allegedly murdered Kago Keletse last year on Independence Day at a popular entertainment spot in Matsiloje village, approximately 45 kilometres east of Francistown.
Moyo told magistrate Kaveri Kapeko that he knows nothing about the murder adding that the police found no knife in his possession after he was arrested.
He said: “I don’t know anything about the murder. I don’t even know whether the deceased was stabbed or shot as the police allege”.
However, magistrate Kapeko told Moyo that what he was saying were issues of evidence, which will be used during trial after the case has been committed to the High Court.
Kapeko said: “Reserve what you are saying for your lawyer. The state will at its own cost appoint a lawyer to represent you. Now we want you to tell us if you have anything to say in relation to what the prosecutor had earlier on said”.
In response Moyo said he had nothing to say.
Earlier, prosecutor Mothusi Meshack told the court that he was not in a position to appraise the court on the status of the exhibits that were sent to the police forensic laboratory for analysis.
Meshack further applied for Moyo to be remanded in custody pending the status of exhibits that were sent to the forensic laboratory.
The police believe that they have watertight evidence against Moyo. They said during the night that Keletse was killed, many bar patrons tried to warn Moyo who was allegedly drunk to stop pestering Keletse, but he ignored their advice.
He also allegedly threatened to stab other bar patrons with the knife he allegedly used to stab Keletse.
Moyo, who is also facing a charge of entering Botswana using an illegal point of entry will appear in court on January 22, 2018 for status hearing.
