No one charged in BMD Matshekge bloody congress

According to the Assistant Commissioner of Police Deputy Divisional Commander-North Central, Tamapo Nthoiwa investigations into violent activities at Matshekge Senior Secondary School were completed in the last week of December. 

“Based on the circumstances surrounding the Matshekge incident criminal charges will not be laid against any member of the two warring BMD factions. We came to the conclusion that no one will be charged after doing a lot of screening. There was a lot of commotion during the infighting which has made it difficult to charge anyone,” Nthoiwa said. 

He said they would send their recommendations to the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) by the end of next week who would make a final determination on the matter. 

At the BMD Matshekge congress members of Ndaba Gaolathe’s faction and a rival team with links to Sydney Pilane pelted each other with stones.

Four people were injured with two were referred to Sekgoma and Nyangabgwe Referral hospitals with severe injuries. The injured duo of Utlwile Tsiara and Phodiso Keiponye had suffered eye and head injuries respectively. In fact, Tsiara’s eye was left with a permanent damage.

Both Tsiara and Keiponye have often expressed optimism that those who injured them will have their day in court.

“All the victims have since recovered from their injuries,” Nthoiwa said.
