Chiefs� Transitional Committee Talks Peace

Chiefs’ factions led by Ramocha Tsieng and Raymond Tsheko had been at each other’s throats as they fought for the control of the team. Tsieng claimed that they were the legitimate executive committee as they were set up as a society rather than a trust that was led by Tsheko.

The groups took the matter to court where they were ordered by the High Court to settle out of court and form an interim committee that would lead the club until elective meeting. Addressing Chiefs’ supporters for the first time on Saturday, chairperson, Chris Molomo said the weekend’s meeting was to pave way for peace after months of internal squabbles.

“We (transitional committee) are here to build, so let’s build together,” Molomo told a handful of supporters gathered at the Stepping Stone hall in Mochudi.  He further said the differences between the two factions that led to a court battle have left the members of the factions stronger than ever and called for supporters to avoid finger pointing.

“I must make it clear that Ramocha (Tsieng) and his group were instructed by the supporters to go to court. Chiefs has been registered as a society, the trust was registered with Registrar of Deeds. The problem was that the trust ran when they were not mandated to,” he said.  For his part, Tsieng told the gathering that his group was within its right to drag the other group to court as they were mandated by the constitution. 

“We believed that the constitution, though it is old but it had to be implemented. The Registrar of Societies at some point threatened to expel us. They alerted us that the team is registered as a society rather than a trust. We had our differences with the other group but at the end of the day, I would like to tell you that we have found common ground,” he said. 

The transitional committee would be in office for two months until the end of August when an elective meeting would be held. The committee told the supporters that they would be looking into securing sponsorships and amending the outdated constitution and they have set sub committees for these two objectives. The committee is made of nine members; each faction has three each while the other three are elders selected by the factions.
