BOKA to announce karate coaches on Wednesday

Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) will announce national team coaches and managers on Wednesday.
BOKA public relations officer, Isaiah Ramontshonyana told Mmegi Sport this morning that the announcement would be made tomorrow morning. He said for the first time in history, the selection process included oral interviews. He said that way, they believe that the process was transparent.
Some of the coaches that had submitted their applications for the job include Goitseone Mongologa, Christopher Ponatshego, George Tshikare, Peter Molefe, Otsile Motsamai and Krone Kgorotlhe.
Meanwhile, Mmegi Sport is reliably informed that BOKA is still in talks regarding the appointment of Egyptian coach, Mohamed Fathi Khalaf Abu Abed, to take charge of the senior national team.
'I am not in a position to discuss the appointment of the Egyptian coach at the moment. But we are interested in getting him but the challenge is funding. If we can get funds, then it would be good for us. We want to change the way we have been doing things,' he said.
Ramontshonyana said national teams always shine in regional tournaments but they face challenges at continental and global level. He said that has to change and results must start coming forth. He said a foreign coach might even dispel the myth of
favouritism. He said the karate community is always at loggerheads when national teams are selected and that affects performance.
The selection of the senior and junior national teams will begin on February 3, 2018.
Selections for junior teams are going to be held in the north and south (Lobatse and Palapye). The top four from each category would face each other in the finals. The categories for individual kumite range from 16 years and above. Individual kata for men ranges from under 60kg, under 67kg, under 75kg, under 84kg and over 84kg. The women's kata starts from under 50kg, under 55kg, under 61kg, under 68kg and over 68kg.
Ramontshonyana said children’s individual kumite starts at the age of eight with kata starting at seven years.
