Letlhakane teen (18) rapes granny (80), man (40) rapes toddler (3)

 

According to superintendent Michael Maphephu of Lethakane Police Station, the old woman was assaulted while looking of her goats in the bush at the cattlepost around 11am.

The suspect who is a herdboy at the cattlepost reportedly attacked and raped the old woman.  The suspect was arrested at his homestead at the cattlepost on the same day of the incident. The suspect will appear before the magistrate court tomorrow. 

In another rape incident in Letlhakane, a 40-year-old man of Phase One allegedly raped a three-year-old toddler recently.  The accused is a neighbour to the child.  The incident happened early evening when the child’s parents briefly left the house and the child in the care of others.  The accused who has already appeared before the magistrate court is remanded in custody and is alleged to have snuck into the yard and raped the child.

“We continue to advice the public about the growing issues of rape in this area. People should be sensitive about their movements. In December alone we have recorded 11 cases of rape,” superintendent Michael Maphephu of Letlhakane Police Station said. 

Lethakane police are also investigating a murder and suicide in which 22-year-old man of Dimajwe village killed his girlfriend, 18, of Makgaba village and hung himself from a tree on January 7, 2018.

According to police reports, the couple lived together at a cattlepost near Mokubilo. The girl had escaped her allegedly abusive boyfriend and reported him to the police for assault.

The man was arrested and detained at a police holding cell in Mokubilo on January 6. In the wee hours of January 7, the man broke out of the holding cell and escaped.

He allegedly went out in search of his girlfriend and upon finding her dragged her to a nearby bush where he allegedly bludgeoned her to death with an object before hanging himself from a nearby tree. Both their bodies are currently at the morgue awaiting postmortem.
