The media even went a step further, “Referee from Hell”, screamed The Herald, saying Bondo had failed to award to “clear cut” penalties. ZIFA vice president, Omega Sibanda said his association is ready to launch a complaint against Bondo.

“That was just unacceptable and as an Association we will protest against such questionable ways of deciding matches, because the referee should offer both teams a fair opportunity to win the game and the referee appeared to have an agenda against us,” Sibanda said.

Warriors assistant coach, Bongani Mafu, who also coaches Mochudi Centre Chiefs in the BTC Premiership, blamed complacency and poor refereeing for the dropped points.

“I think it was a gruelling match with crunch tackles flying, and that needed the referee’s control. We got behind their lines and we had opportunities that didn’t come our way, which we thought should be given,” Mafu said.

The two incidents that riled the Zimbabwe bench occurred in the 83rd and 86th minutes of the top of the table clash.

COSAFA, in its post match media release said the two teams had played to an exciting draw, which was overshadowed by controversial refereeing. “Controversial refereeing calls overshadow the top-of-the-table clash as Zimbabawe and Madagascar drew.”
