Dipsy hails Castle Best Brew 5-A-Side League

Talking to Mmegi Sport, Selolwane said the initiative gives fans an opportunity, the real experience of what COSAFA has been offering elite players. “I am very excited about the league. Fans and followers of the beautiful game will get a chance to represent their countries through the Best Brew League and have a real experience of what COSAFA has been giving elite players. It is a great league to make friends and start new friendships,” Selolwane said.

He added that his role as the ambassador of the Best Brew League is to bring “the Best Brew League to the people”. Selolwane said he takes part in five-a-side games “every week”. “It gives me the opportunity to stay active.”

As the COSAFA Cup celebrates 20 years this year, Selolwane has paid tribute to the regional competition’s contribution towards nurturing talent.

“It is a great platform for upcoming players in the region. A lot of talent was discovered through COSAFA, including mine. It has been a memorable 20 years with COSAFA,” he said.

Selolwane’s best memory will be the 1999 clash between the Zebras and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, where he made a swift u-turn, to fire a deflected shot past Brian Baloyi in a 2-1 losing cause. That turn gave birth to one of his nicknames ‘U-turn’ and has remained very much in the minds of many.

“That was my memorable moment, 1999, against Bafana Bafana when I became an overnight national hero,” he said.

Selolwane remains optimistic his home boys, the Zebras will go all the way in the COSAFA Cup this year, after reaching the final in Namibia in 2016.
