ATI�s Serowe Envelope Debacle

No doubt the busiest artist this past festive season was ATI, the Khiring Khiring Khorong Khorong star. He was so busy that at some of the shows, like the Maun’s Monate ko Motjing festival, he performed in the sky from a helicopter to an empty stadium. They could not wait for the late crowd to gather because ATI was booked elsewhere later that night so the show had to go on.
His sentimental gig however, was at his home village of Serowe where he was born Atlasaone Molemogi and chose it as the second major venue to launch his new and highly rated Envelope album.
The album launch, which was at My Destiny Farm in the outskirts of Serowe, had a salivating lineup and was well promoted throughout the village.
ATI brought the oldskool MCees, Apollo D and Scar as well as the nemeses Sasa Klaas and Ozi F Teddy in what promised to be the final rap battle of 2017.
The show was scheduled to start at 10am on Christmas Day, but only started in earnest after midnight the following day on Boxing Day. The revellers started to arrive late in the night and the artists’ performances began after midnight.
It was only after 2am that the crowd began to get value for their money during Scar’s set. But even him was not on his very best as he appeared tired and little uninspiring even when doing his Metholo and Dimakatso hit tracks that are always crowd favourites.
After Scar, came in another legend rapper Apollo D. The big old rap star failed to charm the audience. His repeated attempts to chat up the crowd with his advance American accent at 3:30am earned him boos from the crowd until he literally and disgracefully ran off stage.
The booing must have really hurt Apollo because he later burst on to the audience and sprayed them with some beverage. This enraged the already agitated crowd so bad that he had to hide backstage.
After the Apollo disaster came in bad boy Ozi F Teddy clad in bulletproof vest, rebel beret and dark sunglasses. The boy looked ready for some real battle. He began in his element dissing and spiting some unprintables rhymes at his ex and rapper Sasa Klaas.
But Mmamongwato was not even listening to her old Teddy as she just waited backstage in some big black BMW with some famous young Gaborone tycoon.
Ozi F Teddy blasted almost everyone during his set including the host ATI. He even performed the famous ATI diss track titled Body Bag 3, which he curses the Ke Lekhete star telling him that he cannot rap. He made the crowd, which waited until dawn to see ATI perform, sing a hate song directed at the star of the show.
It was after spitting these lyrics from Body Bag 3, “Ware o lekhete o ler*t*, you can’t sing n*g*, A ko repe, All that anal sex, O icheke, O kare ba ka go ja gore o repe,” that a perfect shot of a bottle full of beer from the crowd struck him square on his forehead.
The shot was so perfect that some spectators took it as a stunt until Ozi F Teddy ran off stage angry and brandishing middle fingers in the air.
That is when Sasa Klaas stepped on stage wearing some black flowing outfit with a high slit showing her whole pale thigh and an underwear that showed little bit too much - she actually sang about saying “go leba gase molato”.
The Mmamongwato, now in GaaMmangwato, was flaunting it all out. She even brought the amazing Coco, the pint sized dancer who dances like she is straight out of an exotic Gentlemen’s Bar, to wow the crowd.
At 4:30am when the eastern sky was starting to wear off its darkness ATI was strapping up for his first act backstage. He had planned to land on stage on a slide and while he was busy with the strapping, his protégé Spiza got on stage but the crowd was not entertained because all they wanted was the master.
Finally ATI must have ruled out the sling stage entrance stunt and decided to walk on the specially designed rotating stage just before 5am.
He was strapped in a harness over tight blue jeans, tattered black shirt and had white Hannibal mask. He also brought a group of acrobatic dancers and jammed to the sunrise.
That Boxing Day morning ATI proved that his song Khiring Khiring Khorong Khorong featuring Yung Amazing and Leggacy DG is such a great jam no matter what time of the day it is, “e betsa go utwala”.
The crowd that remained patient and waited the whole day and night jammed to the tune despite all ATI’s failed stunts.
