In a press release the ministry stated that it continues to experience shortage of blood in its facilities and therefore encourages the public to donate blood in large numbers and regularly.

“A total of 40,000 units of blood is needed annually. This target is, however, never met. To meet the target, we need at least two percent of the eligible population to donate blood regularly,” it noted.

Males and females between ages 16 to 65 are advised to donate blood four times a year for males whereas females is three times.

From Monday to Friday last week, a total of 200 people are said to have donated blood at the National Blood Transfusion Centre.  The public is advised to visit centres in Serowe, Francistown, Gaborone, Maun, Mahalapye and Molepolole to donate blood.
