Miscellaneous end Rollers' unbeaten run
STAFF WRITER
It came from the least expected of sources, as Miscellaneous became the first team to inflict defeat on runaway log leaders, Township Rollers on Sunday, winning 3-1 in Lobatse.
Rollers last tasted defeat in the league against Mochudi Centre Chiefs in the first half of the 2016-2017 season, and had gone more than 30 games without a loss until Miscellaneous' intervention on Sunday.
A brace from Resaoboka Thatanyane and veteran striker, Master Masitara's strike were sufficient to condemn Rollers to their first league defeat of the season.
Rollers’ first loss in 14 games, revived pursuers, Jwaneng Galaxy's interest as the miners moved to within eight points of the defending champions. That advantage can be further trimmed to just five points as Galaxy has a game in hand.
The leaders stayed on 33 points while Galaxy's 2-0 win over Security Systems meant they claw closer, which gives others chasers a glimmer of hope.
Miscellaneous stayed in contention with the shock victory, although they find themselves 10 points off the pace, while Gaborone United could only settle for a thrilling 4-4 draw against Police XI, which saw the capital city side drop to fifth. Orapa United moved to fourth after coach, Bongani Mafu, gained some measure revenge over his paymasters, Mochudi Centre Chiefs, who are struggling to settle his salary arrears.
Gilport Lions look destined for the drop after they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Sankoyo Bush Bucks, which left the troubled side firmly rooted at the bottom with just four points from
10 games.
