According to the Northern divisional CID officer, assistant commissioner Oabitsa Rankwaila they received a tip-off that two local men were in possession of substance believed to be cocaine.

“We cannot at the moment disclose what the suspects were found in possession of.

We are waiting for results from the police forensic laboratory in Gaborone to confirm what the substance is,” Rankwaila said adding that investigations in the matter are still ongoing.

The suspected drug dealers are aged between 28 and 43 years.

Rankwaila said the police are working hard to control drugs in the city through public education at schools, boot camps and other public forums.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that plain-clothed police officers that arrested the duo at the Area W shopping complex fired two warning shots to alert the suspects not to escape.

Sources privy to the matter said the suspects complied and were released from police cells on Saturday pending results from the forensic laboratory.
