Zweshe was arrested and detained for allegedly faking papers including government documents last year at Tlokweng village.

Following his alleged capabilities of forging any document Facebook users named him ‘Goromente’ and the man has been trending on social media for his felonious skills.

Responding to the prosecution’s affidavit on why he should not be granted bail, Zweshe told the court that even though he entered Botswana through ungazetted entry he has a passport and has filed its copy before the court.

“I have no doubt that my stay in the country is illegal and I have entered the country through ungazetted entry, but I believe that this court can charge me for that offense. The Investigating Officer (IO) said I am a flight risk just because I am a foreigner, but I beg to differ because that is determined by one’s character not his or her nationality,” Zweshe said.

He told the court that he was shocked to hear the IO saying that it might be difficult for him to be located if granted bail whilst owning and operating a business in Botswana.

“The IO said the charges I am facing have the possibility of pushing me to flee the country, but I beg to differ because my arrest made headlines. My arrest became popular across all social media, newspapers and my face was also aired live on television hence I cannot flee the country without being recognised. I am pleading for this court to grant me bail,” Zweshe said.

Zweshe revealed to the court that his friend residing at Modipane village has offered him accommodation if granted bail and has since submitted the affidavit before court as the IO had raised an issue of permanent residence.

Mmegi has learnt that Zweshe has forged many documents including government ones. On his arrest it was reported that Zweshe could forge marriage, death, birth certificates, driver’s licence, educational certificates or any other document one could think of.

It has since being revealed that Zweshe who has been operating his business for years in Botswana is suspected to have sold fake documents to a majority of people who might have used them fraudulently.

Then, Botswana Police Service’s (BPS) director of crime intelligence Nunu Lesetedi revealed that Zweshe was also capable of faking documents that one can use for his loan to be approved whilst unemployed as well as faking bank cheques.

Batho extended Zweshe’s remand until January 31, 2018 where he will appear for another mention.
