Masuku and his committee have come under criticism from BAFA affiliates, who want the office bearers to step down.

According to information reaching Mmegi Sport, some fencing affiliates want fresh elections called.

Mogoditshane, Tlokweng, Robust, Sir Seretse Khama JSS, Metsimasweu JSS, Boipelego, Legae, Westwood, North Rise and University of Botswana have written a letter demanding audience with the committee. The affiliates have raised concerns that the association has been inactive for a long time, without any competitions.

“Our annual events such as the Gaborone Open and the National Championships would have been held by now but there is no word about them. There is no calendar of events as has always been the case. The committee does not communicate with us especially new clubs, which are in the dark,” reads the letter in part.

Rubust chairperson, Tebogo Mokwena told Mmegi Sport yesterday that as a new affiliate, which joined BAFA this year, they have been kept in the dark about fencing operations.

“We have never been consulted by the leadership. We do not know anything about competitions. We tried to ask for assistance from other clubs but they were also in the dark. Fencing has collapsed,” he said.

Mokwena said their worries motivated them to write a letter to the committee requesting a meeting with the executive committee.

He said during the meeting they want the committee to state their position; if they are interested in running the association or they should be replaced. Tshepo Chigu of UB Club said lack of activities has had a negative impact on the sport.

He said they are always training but at the end of the day, there is no activity. He said they wondered how a national team will be selected if the need arises.

For his part, Masuku confirmed receiving the letter from the affiliates. He said he was in the process of meeting with his committee to map the way forward.
