Man, 42 rapes Mogoditshane teen

According to particulars of the offence, on or around June 17, 2017 the accused had unlawful carnal knowledge with the Standard Six teenager. The alleged incident happened in Mogoditshane.

In court, public prosecutor Inspector Tsogo Rantopo pleaded with court to remand the accused in custody.

Rantopo said investigations into the matter are still ongoing.

“This is a new matter which is under investigation. The matter under investigation involves a victim of 13 years who is a Standard Six pupil.

Efforts are still underway to interview the victim who is currently still admitted at Princess Marina Hospital.

“I plead with court to remand the accused in custody,” pleaded Rantopo. Rantopo said they need time to get statement from the victim and broaden police investigations.

He indicated that the police are yet to collect any statements, including those of witnesses because they will need assistance from the victim to identify them. “We also seek an order for the area social workers to assist interview the victim,” he added.

Magistrate Ngandu ordered that the social worker should interview the victim to collect her statement and assist her with counselling before preparing an inquiry report for the court.

Furthermore, Ngandu said that the social welfare worker will be expected to appear with the complainant to assist her when trial resumes. The case continues on July 5, 2017.
