The dual water treatment system is one of the innovations that have a potential of positive national impact given that the country experiences high water stress and incidents of salinity of underground water reserves.

The Zoroga Water Treatment System _will be handed over to Water Utilities Corporation for operation and maintenance purposes on Friday 30’h June, 2017, The Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Dr Alfred Madigele will be the official guest at the handover ceremony and representatives from academia, private sector and the Sandveldt Farmers Association will be in attendance.

The Clean Tech Centre worked with the Embassy of Israel to Botswana to identify key strengths in Clean Technologies from Israel which can lead to initiatives to forge partnerships in Water and Energy related technologies that best suit the local environment.

To this end, Botswana Innovation Hub collaborated with ODiS Group, an Israeli water treatment technology company and Water Utilities Corporation to pilot dual water treatment unit in Zoroga.

The partnership also seeks to work with local research and water quality organizations to better their products locally.

The introduction, testing and further development of the technology can be used as a basis for design and implementation of local water treatment / purification centers in rural areas.
